Hard Times
03:48
|
|||
Look at you walking around with a suitcase full of stone
Ain't gonna let you off that easy, you gotta crawl back home
You got a box of jailhouse letters, sittin on your closet shelf
Don't rag on me to save your skin, I'll burn this house down myself
It might be hard times, but they been harder before
Don’t let that man back through your door
I’m stopping by the market, I'm gonna pick me up some wine
A glass of wine and 40 dollars, is gonna make that bed of mine fine
Mr. Million dollars, could you please spare my man a mile
Please excuse I’m being rude but I’m a homeless man on fire
Turn me from the river, so I can safely stumble home
Woke up in a white bed with a red light blinking telephone
The nurse came round, said I best get ready to die
I looked around for a white collar so I could drown in one more lying high

Black Glass Blues
04:20
|
|||
I'm running to the ocean, lord
Someone told me it was dead
I've got twelve grand and a stove pipe
Twisted underneath my bed
If you wanna walk on water
You better be toking to your own beat
What happens when you wanna draw a bath
But you can only wet your feet?
Got not ball and chain
But I can't even lift up my shoes
That's why I got these, mama,
Got these Black Glass Blues

Drinking the Stone
04:15
|
|||
I tried to lie, yesterday, and it burned my tongue
I tried to love the pain, but I'm much too young
I got three hundred dollars, and lead in my bones
But that's alright, I'm out here drinking the stone
Drew me a painting of a statue, and hung it up in a picture frame
I've been tripping up a different ladder, but I still look and feel the same
I'm going to the courthouse, but I ain't got no comb
The fire is still cold, in the back of a broke down van
I've been begging myself to make [myself] a colder man
Steel my leather, mail my broken spine home
Mail train coming, it's burning down my camps
They're putting seven different types of shades, on every one of my lamps
Never thought my baby, never thought she'd do me wrong

Mind's In Trouble
05:58
|
|||
I'm just some lesson learned, you're just some newspaper walking
My city friends won't stop shaking, your county friends won't stop talking
Last time we got into this, we didn't see whether or not the boat was already rocking
Trees down at the bottom, they ain't going to catch no rain
Well my trouble is in your hair, my sugar's just twisting Cain
If I can get away with it, and I think I will, I'm gonna pull that trigger and hop that train
I'm just some hotshot in a trailer, it's my thirteenth time to go
I'm not going to let you down easy, I know how much you love that floor
If you floor was a little bit dirty it'd be warm, but your floor is much too cold
There's some secret to this castle, it's just some evil minded trick
I can't leave it in the road, I can't keep my mind off it
Yeah we can wait around until I'm rough again, but by then you know you're bound to quit
I'm just some lesson learned, you just can't leave me in
The words I'm saying can't be written down, can't be said to win
You know my mind's in trouble, it should be pouring out, but my stomach is much too thin

Street Sweeper
04:42
|
|||
Man it's cold outside, lend me a pallet on your floor
I'm the man who lost an arm and a leg fighting for you in your war
I went broke selling stories
But you was out there selling billboards- making money like a drugstore
You ain't never seen a man so poor
My friend I'm sleeping right out side your door
I'm just some street sweeper
But I can really sweep your floor
Stand up on my shoulders, tell me what I see
Tell me what to dream about next so you can tell me what it means
I'm sorry things ain't been the same
Since they went and got that street sweeping machine- they gotta keep things lean
If you want to hang me, you gotta do it right
[You] don't want that noose coming loose in the middle of the night
[While I'm up here] hand me a drink
Just watch out for that turpentine- that's that poor man's wine
You ain't never seen a man so poor
My friend I'm walking right outside your door
I'm just some street sweeper
I can do a little bit of boot shining, too
One or two licks will make you good as new
Lend me a pallet on your floor
I'm just a-
I can really sweep your floor

Not This Time
04:21
|
|||
Last time I lived this long you know I was king of the ***damned land
But this time round I've been born wrong, someone stuck a shovel in my hand
Well I won’t be here for long, you know I've got my eye on a fancy set of stairs
But in the meantime being a night soil man ain’t so bad if you don’t mind a little mess in your hair
Not this time
Last time I slept this long you know I was dead and buried for 20 years
But this time around I’ve been sleepwalking so I don’t have to face my fears
Well the road is cold and empty now, but the road is way out of my line
I’ve been tripping up these stairs for a score, hoping they don’t catch me alive
Last time I ran this long you know, I had a car full of hundred dollar bills
Now I’m clinging to some railroad tracks, with my mind on some little white pills
Last time I was keeping the law off my back after hitting up that bank and loan
But this time around I'm asking them for help to keep my shirt on [my back] so I can afford a gravestone

Steamboat
05:34
|
|||
I'm just a steamboat captain,
I'm trying to take my burley back home
Well this river water is rising,
I'm afraid my paddle wheel is too slow
The rain is swirling around me,
My crew, they all hopped in a life boat
We're taking on too much water,
I'm afraid, the old Belle [she] ain't going to stay afloat
The Delta Queen, she's upriver,
She's seen me come undone before.
She went right on home,
While I fell apart and drifted into shore
Throw my burley in the fire,
I gotta do what I can, gotta get more steam.
You know that Delta Queen she's already at home,
She runs on gasoline

Rio Vista
06:11
|
|||
I was born at the Rio Vista, before my daddy hit the ground
That water rises every year, now I'm the mayor of this town
Cause I was born deaf and blind, for a score I didn't even make a sound
I'm like a bride in line waiting for my last meal
My fingernails are bloody red and my veil is a rusted steel
My groom is in the other room, rolling like a wagon wheel
I ain't got no place to sleep, I've been staying awake instead
Last night I killed the mayor, now I'm in jail, but at least I got a bed
Ain't nobody with a white light going to steal my shoes
Ain't nobody going to take this Cadillac for a cruise
There's two steps to my funeral, now I'm swimming in the Stonewater blues

Zeno Jones Louisville, Kentucky
Rodney B. rocks his own socks off, going through drum heads & sticks like a wood chipper. Zeno Jones drowns in the deep blues, bending everything he can get his hands on like it’s the truth. As Cold Beverage they play rock & ****ing roll. Not afraid of voice cracks, breakdowns, and other beauty marks, Cold Beverage lays down heavy blues & rock riffs the only way they know, totally out of control. ... more
